About Us
Shalford Village Hall is a thriving and multi purpose complex which has been at the centre of Village life for over 50 years. As a registered charity, we are managed by Trustees who are drawn from the local community and our regular users.
Our Trustees contribute their time and expertise for the running of the Halls and work tirelessly for the interests of the local community. We are also very fortunate in our Caretaker, Keith Mansfield who makes an essential contribution on a daily basis and works very closely with our regular users.
Since 2020, we have been pleased to provide long term accommodation for Shalford Parish Council. This important step and partnership have reinforced our links with the local community.
History
For over 40 years, the Village Institute in Pound Place was at the centre of Shalford Village life until it burnt down in 1961. After intense fund raising, the current Village Hall rose from the ashes and opened on the Christmas Hill site in November 1964.
The land on which the Halls stand was donated by the later Edgar C Wigan in 1962. Over the years, the Main Hall was enlarged to provide the Club rooms and the Small Hall which is now occupied by the Parish Council. The Upper Hall was added in 1999 together with the Bowling Green and Tennis Courts. Funding for these facilities came from various sources, including the Lottery, Guildford Borough Council and private funds.
Today, Shalford Village Hall is in a strong position. Our Trustees are keen to ensure that we continue to thrive and to adapt to the changing needs of the local community. Once we emerge from lockdown and CV19, we expect to revert to our normal situation in which all of our facilities are used on a daily, weekly or monthly basis by well established regular and occasional customers. But new enquiries and new faces are always welcome.
